On The Camino – art print

Along the Camino the pilgrim connects with history, changing landscapes, people, places and symbols. These create deep and lasting impressions. In the painting series “Camino Steps“, the artist Marc Heffner takes up themes, icons and places along the Camino de Santiago.

Since the 10th Century, pilgrims have walked El Camino de Santiago to the shrine of the Apostle St. James in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. Walking a Camino was a traditional penance and pilgrims received an indulgence to pardon their sin. The routes to the shrine originate from all over Europe. With the amazing growth of popularity of the El Camino de Santiago, the old routes becoming restored by locals and Camino associations. Nowadays the well-marked and mapped routes are enjoyed by walkers, hikers and bikers who decided to do this pilgrimage.
