Since the 10th Century, pilgrims have walked El Camino de Santiago to the shrine of the Apostle St. James in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.

The tomb in Santiago de Compostela developed in the Middle Ages beside Rome and Jerusalem to the third principal purpose of the Christian pilgrim’s journey.
